What it does
The Squirrel MCP server gives your AI assistant one tool, search_products. Ask in plain words and the assistant finds the product in Squirrel's catalogue and shows you who sells it, at what price, whether it is in stock, and where to buy it.
- Search by product name, model number, barcode, or a link to a product page
- Offers from UK retailers, regularly updated from the retailers' own product feeds
- Sorted by price, cheapest first, with in-stock offers before out-of-stock ones
- Read-only: it never buys anything, signs you in, or changes anything for you
- No account, no API key, nothing to install
Try asking: "Find the cheapest LG OLED55B6 in the UK", "Where can I buy a Dyson V15 Detect and what does it cost?", or "Compare prices for barcode 8806096768891".

Claude Code and other MCP clients
Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP (Streamable HTTP) can use it. In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http squirrel-products https://mcp.getsquirrel.co/mcp
In a client configured with JSON:
{
"mcpServers": {
"squirrel-products": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.getsquirrel.co/mcp"
}
}
}
The search_products tool
Your assistant fills these in for you; they are listed here for developers and the curious.
| Input | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
query | Yes | Product name, model number, barcode (EAN or UPC), Amazon ASIN, or a product page URL. Up to 1,000 characters. |
country | No | Two-letter country of the shopper. GB today, which is also the default. |
max_products | No | Products to return, 1 to 10. Default 5. |
max_offers | No | New-condition offers per product, 1 to 20. Default 5. Up to 3 used and 3 refurbished offers are added when available. |
Each product comes back with its name, brand, model, image and barcodes, and a list of offers. Each offer has the retailer, price, currency, stock status and a link to buy.
How results are ordered
Offers are sorted by price, cheapest first, with in-stock offers before out-of-stock ones. Results are never ordered by commission, and no retailer can pay for a position.
How Squirrel is paid
Offer links go through Squirrel Links (sqrlinks.ai), which takes you straight to the retailer. Squirrel may be paid by the retailer or its affiliate network when a link is used. You pay the retailer's normal price.
Privacy and limits
The server only receives the search your assistant sends, never your conversation. Results are cached for 10 minutes, a hashed version of the caller's IP address is kept for 2 minutes to apply rate limits (20 searches a minute per address), and our web servers log requests, including the IP address, to run and secure the service. Details are in our privacy policy and terms of service.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT use outside tools. An MCP server offers those tools; once you connect it, the assistant can call them while it answers you. Squirrel's MCP server gives your assistant one tool: a live product and price search.
Is the Squirrel MCP server free?
Yes. There is no account, no API key and no charge. Squirrel may be paid by the retailer or its affiliate network when you buy through one of the links.
Which countries does it cover?
The United Kingdom today, with prices in GBP. More countries will follow as their product catalogues are added.
How are the results ordered?
By price, cheapest first, with in-stock offers before out-of-stock ones. Results are never ordered by commission and no retailer pays for a position.
What data does the MCP server keep?
It receives only the search you send (the product, country and how many results you want), never your conversation. Results are cached for 10 minutes, a hashed version of the caller's IP address is kept for 2 minutes to enforce rate limits, and our web servers log requests, including the IP address, to run and secure the service. See the privacy policy for details.
I build products. Is there an API?
Yes. The Squirrel API gives your own applications the same product and price data, with your own affiliate accounts, more countries and higher limits.
